College Station ISD Mentor Program for First Year Teachers
Purpose
The purpose of the Mentor Teacher Program is to orient the zero-year, novice teacher to the educational environment and first-year teachers, share the vision of the profession by modeling and encouraging best practice through collaboration, collegiality and participation in a continuous learning community. This specific program is designed for those new to the teaching field or with one year of experience, and is predicated on the idea that new teachers must feel supported in their work, particularly in their first two years of teaching.
Who Will My Mentor Be?
Formal mentors are assigned for teachers with zero or one year of experience; however, unofficial mentors may be assigned to new teachers who have experience prior to coming to CSISD. Formal mentors must be selected using the state of Texas requirements of:

• Increase collegiality

Who Will My Mentor Be?
Formal mentors are assigned for teachers with zero or one year of experience; however, unofficial mentors may be assigned to new teachers who have experience prior to coming to CSISD. Formal mentors must be selected using the state of Texas requirements of:
- Work at the same campus as the new teacher
- Teach the same subject or grade level as applicable (if possible)
- Have at least three complete years of teaching experience and a superior history of improving student performance
- Have completed a mentor training program provided by the district
